Gavin Root enters his first season as a graduate assistant at UAB.
Root, a native of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, served as a graduate assistant for the WKU men’s basketball team during the 2021-22 season.
The first-year Blazer played college basketball at Division III school Transylvania University from 2017-21. Root helped lead the Pioneers to the HCAC Conference Championship in 2020. He also exceled academically and was named a NAAC Honors Court recipient in 2021.
Root starred at North Hardin High School, earning two All-District Team honors. He was also named the Elizabethtown News Enterprise’s Player of the Year as a senior in 2017.
Root is currently pursuing his master’s degree in business administration at UAB. He was married in May 2022 to his wife Allie.
