Aaron Johnson enters his first season as the Director of Player of Development with the Blazers in 2023-24. He previously served as a graduate manager for two seasons.
Johnson was a standout point guard for the Blazers for four seasons from 2007-11. He is UAB’s all-time assist leader with 664 and he set the single season record of 239 during his senior season in 2010-11 while leading the NCAA.
Johnson was recognized as an honorable mention AP All-American during his senior season while averaging 11.8 points and 7.7 assists per game and leading the Blazers to an at-large NCAA Tournament berth. UAB made three NIT appearances and one NCAA Tournament appearance during his career.
In 2020, Johnson became the fourth UAB men’s basketball player to have his jersey number retired. His No. 1 jersey hangs in the rafters along with other Blazer legends like Jerome Mincy, Steve Mitchell and Oliver Robinson as well as legendary UAB coach and athletic director Gene Bartow.
