Conrad Flynn enters his first year as UAB baseball's director of player development.
Flynn came to UAB after most recently serving as an assistant coach for Santa Fe College, a junior college located in Gainesville, Fla. The new Blazer coached there from August of 2015 until accepting his new position.
Along with his full-time coaching duties, Flynn also served as a baseball instructor at the University of Florida's baseball camp in the summers of 2015-16.
Before landing in the collegiate ranks, Flynn got his start at the high school level as head varsity baseball coach of P.K. Yonge in 2014. He led the Blue Wave for one season and also coached the GatorBall travel team for one month before taking his opportunity to jump to the college level.
Prior to his coaching career, Flynn was a pitcher in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. The former minor leaguer got his start in Rookie Ball with the Missoula Osprey, before working his way up to the South Bend Silver Hawks (Low-A), Visalia Rawhide (High-A), Mobile Bay Bears (Double-A) and Reno Aces (Triple A). Flynn finished his MLB career with another stint with the Rawhide before concluding his playing days with the Rio Grande Valley White Wings with United League Baseball. Flynn competed in the pro ranks for four years, from 2011-14.
Flynn honed his skills at the collegiate level before jumping to the minors, pitching first for Grayson County Community College before taking the mound for Tulane. It was during his time with the Green Wave that Flynn caught the eye of the UAB coaching staff.
Outside of pitching and coaching teams, Flynn has also spread his knowledge of the game individually. The new Blazer previously taught private lessons during his time in Florida and also mentored kids on how to be successful on and off the diamond as a volunteer in California and in Texas. With all of the qualities he brings to the table, the UAB staff is excited to bring Flynn aboard.
