Thomas Rohling joined the UAB staff at the end of 2022 as Athletic Performance Coach for baseball and volleyball as well as interim softball Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Prior to UAB, Rohling spent the last 24 years at Samford University serving as Head Strength and Conditioning Coordinator/Coach for the baseball, men and women’s track and field, men and women’s tennis and volleyball programs. From 1998-2018, he taught as an Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition Science.
Rohling has designed, implemented and supervised the strength and conditioning programs for 60 combined regular season champions,
conference tournament champions, and NCAA postseason appearances. He has been the strength coach for four German Cup Champions Women’s Conference All-Sports Trophy teams.
Rohling’s strength and conditioning programs are still used by athletes he worked with in the collegiate ranks and that have moved on to the professional leagues. To date, Rohling has coached 30 players who have gone on to be drafted by Major League Baseball. He was the strength coach for Samford's first ever student-athlete chosen in the first round of any professional league draft.
Rohling holds the following Certifications:
from 1990-1992, assisting with the defensive line as well as the
strength and conditioning program. Rohling also oversaw the offensive
scout team and weekly breakdown of opponent’s game films and the
gathering of information for weekly defensive scouting reports.
Rohling served as the strength coach for the Samford baseball team that played in the Southern Conference Tournament title game six out of eight years winning the title three times. Also, during his time with baseball, the team posted seven straight 30+ win seasons.
