Derek Nichols joined UAB Athletics in 2017 as anΒ Assistant Athletic Trainer. Β Nichols is responsible for all sports medicine efforts for Blazer Baseball and Bowling.
Prior to joining UAB, Nichols spent a year at Butler University as an Intern Athletic Trainer. In his time with the Bulldogs, Nichols worked with womenβs lacrosse and assisted with the football team. Β Before his time at Butler, Nichols spent two years at Adams State University as aΒ Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer. At Adams, he worked with a variety of teams including menβs basketball, soccer, baseball and womenβs lacrosse.Β
Nichols earned a Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training fromΒ Oregon State University in 2014 and Master's degree in Exercise Science from Adams State University in 2016.
In addition to his certification as an athletic trainer from the Board of Certification, Nichols also holds certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association as aΒ Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
