UAB Falls to Charlotte in 89th Minute

CHARLOTTE, N.C. β The UAB men's soccer team saw its four-match winning streak come to an end Sunday night, falling 1-0 to Charlotte at Jen Gaber Field.
The Blazers (4-2-1, 1-1-0 American) and 49ers played to a scoreless draw through the first 88 minutes before Charlotte found the breakthrough with just 1:03 remaining in regulation. Michael Raggett scored the game-winning goal in the 89th minute off assists from Wiktor Pucilowski and Diogo Fazenda.
UAB was held scoreless for just the second time this season and finished the match with seven shots, including one on goal. Jake Jiwon Han recorded UAB's lone shot on target, forcing a save from Charlotte goalkeeper Alex Svetanoff in the 79th minute. Svetanoff transferred from UAB to Charlotte after the 2024 season.Β
The Blazers held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks in the second half and finished the match with four corner kicks overall. UAB goalkeeper Ethan Schulz made five saves in the contest.
The loss snaps UAB's longest winning streak since 2013, when the Blazers also won four consecutive matches. UAB will look to bounce back in non-conferenceΒ next week against Gardner-Webb on Wednesday. Kickoff is set for 6:00Β p.m. at PNC Field.
