UAB Athletics and Cumulus Radio Agree to Three-Year Extension

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Led by Learfield's Blazer Sports Properties, UAB Athletics and Cumulus Media have agreed to a three-year extension to continue the longstanding partnership that keeps JOX Radio as the home of the Blazers through the 2028-29 academic year.
The extension means WJOX 94.5 FM will continue serving as the flagship home for UAB Football, while WJQX 100.5 FM will remain the home of UAB Men's Basketball broadcasts throughout the season. Additionally, 100.5 FM will continue airing both football and basketball coaches shows featuring Alex Mortensen, Andy Kennedy and Randy Norton.

The multi-year extension with Cumulus was overseen by Learfield and its locally based Blazer Sports Properties team as part of the department's overall multimedia rights relationship.
"JOX Radio has served as a terrific radio partner for UAB Athletics, providing unparalleled broadcast quality for Blazer Football and Basketball games and coaches shows," said Greg Wheeler, General Manager of Blazer Sports Properties. "We're excited to continue engaging our fans through the exceptional broadcast experience delivered by JOX Radio and our outstanding broadcast team led by David Crane."
The agreement continues a longstanding partnership between UAB Athletics and one of Birmingham's leading sports radio brands, providing fans throughout the region with continued access to live game broadcasts, coaches shows and year-round coverage of Blazer Athletics.
Under the leadership of Alex Mortensen, UAB Football enters the 2026 season with momentum heading into Mortensen's first full year at the helm, while Andy Kennedy continues to lead one of the premier basketball programs in the American Conference.
