Castillo's 800m Performance Highlights Day at Crimson Tide Invitational

TUSCALOOSA – UAB Track & Field wrapped up its day at the Crimson Tide Invitational hosted by Alabama.
The day was highlighted by Lia Castillo in the 800m. Castillo placed sixth overall out of 28 runners and finished with a time of 2:10.01. Castillo's 800m time now ranks eighth in school history.
Emma Kate Alexander also ran the 800m and she recorded her personal record with a time of 2:15.83.
Ava Brooks and Kyra Hayes competed in the 3000m Steeplechase. Brooks placed fourth with a time of 11:26.91 while Hayes finished right behind her teammate in fifth with a time of 11:28.33.
Fiona Eastman and Victoria Freeland each finished their days with a mark of 3.63m in the Pole Vault. The duo finished at 11th and 15th overall, respectively, due to Eastman not recording a fail until her third set.
Jasmine Dereje had a strong showing in the 800m Hurdles. Dereje clocked a time of 1:00.46 which was good for fourth overall out of 17 athletes.
Lidia Longo was the lone Blazer in the 1500m race. Longo ran the race in 4:36.52 which was her personal best.
The Green and Gold will return to action next Thursday and Friday as the Blazers travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to compete in the Wake Forest Invite. All meet information and schedules will be posted at a later date.
