Blazer Basketball Makes More Road History

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB Men's Basketball team (19-11, 10-7 American) won another road game at Charlotte (15-15, 9-8 American) 80-74 on Wednesday night in North Carolina. Chance Westry 20 points, 11 assists, and eight rebounds led the Blazers and was just two rebounds away from UAB's last triple-double (Paul Delaney on Feb. 4, 2009). Evan Chatman recorded 19 points and nine rebounds, which is the second most points he has scored in a game.
Charlotte made eight three pointers with Arden Conyers (19) making four of those. Ben Bradford (17) and Conyers led the 49ers in scoring. No Charlotte players had more than seven rebounds (Ben Bradford).

- With the win, UAB has now won 10 straight road games and becomes the second team in American Conference history to ever go undefeated in conference play. 2022-23 Houston also did it. 10 straight road wins is tied for the 2nd best current streak behind Michigan (W10) and Miami (OH) (W14) who is currently 30-0.
- 10 road wins ties a program record that was set by the 2015-16 UAB team.
- UAB made all of its 20 free throw attempts. 20-20 (1.000) is the most free throw attempts without a miss in a single game in program history. 17-17 was the most in program history which was set against Vanderbilt on March 22, 2023
- Seven lead changes in the first half and seven ties
- UAB is now 4-7 when trailing at halftime this season.
- Teh Blazers had 16 offensive rebounds resulting in 20 second chance points. Charlotte had just eight offensive rebounds with only two second chance points.
- Evan Chatman with the 12th game of this season with 10+ points scored. Chatman has scored 10+ points in six of the last seven games.
- The Blazers struggled from behind the arch, making just four and going on a stretch of 11 missed in a row.
- Chance Westry put up 11 assists tonight. This is his 5th game of 8 or more assists, and 11 assists ties his career high. This is also Westry's four straight game with 10+ points. This was Westry's second double-double of the year.
- Rivera grabbed his 199th rebound this season.
- KyeRon Lindsay-Martin had 12 points marking his 14th game this year scoring 10 or more.
- UAB scored on its last 16 possessions to end the game. UAB led for just 7:45 seconds compared to Charlotte's 27:14. The game saw 11 lead changes and nine ties.
- UAB shot 43% from the field (28-for-65), 22% from three (4-for-18), and 100% from the free-throw line (20-for-20).
- Cahrlotte started the game on a 9-2 run, while UAB missed its first two shots and had two turnovers in their first few possessions [15:52].
- The Blazers answered with a 9-2 run of its own to tie the game at 11 [14:38].
- UAB tied it again with nine minutes left to play in the half. Evan Chatman rebound and put back while he got fouled and made the basket to take the lead [19-18]. Chatman started 4-of-5 from the field with 13 first half points.
- A great outlet pass by Chance Westry after a defensive rebound gave Evan Chatman an easy fast break dunk [31-29].
- Charlotte took the lead into halftime after scoring with 27 seconds left. Arden Conyers hit his second three of the game [33-35].
- The two teams traded layups started off by Chance Westry and then Jarne Elouna Eyenga out of half the break [35-37].
- Six different scorers put the ball in the basket to start the second half. Ben Bradford scored his second bucket of the second half that tied Charlotte's largest lead of the game thus far when the 49ers went on a 5-0 run early in the second half [45-52].
- Salim London took an opportunity to get down the court quickly scoring on a fast break and through contact. He hit the free throw for a three-point play [48-53].
- Quaran McPherson came in and made a huge impact scoring five points in just over 60 seconds [61-64].
- UAB went on a 7-0 run that ended with 3:40 on the clock. The Blazers took the lead for the first time since 1:04 in the first half [68-66]. The run continued with a Westry driving layup extending to 9-0 [70-66].
- UAB scored on its last 16 possessions including some critical free throws down the stretch.
- Westry, Rivera, and London hit all of their one and one free throws within the last minute of the game.
- Final score: UAB 80, Charlotte 74
- UAB is back in action for the regular season finale on Sunday, March 8 when the Blazers host East Carolina. Tipoff against the Pirates is set for 2:00 p.m. CT.
