Wichita State Takes Doubleheader, Sweep Blazers

WICHITA, Kan. - Blazer Softball lost both legs of the doubleheader to close its first away series of conference play. Wichita State defeated the Blazers 9-1 in five innings, winning in walk-off fashion, and 2-1 in a tight battle in game two.
The Blazer offense was completely shut down in game one by Wichita State's Ava Sliger. UAB only managed an Ashlyn Shirah home run as the only hit of the game for the Blazers. Olivia Cummings and Hannah Cole put together a great performance in the circle for the Blazers, but the UAB offense could not muster more than a run for the second straight game.
UAB had a chance to tie in the sixth inning of game two. AJ Kramer reached on a wild pitch on a dropped third strike. With two outs, pinch-hitter Bria Allen singled. With pinch runners on first and second base, Antonia Henderson singled deep to right field, scoring Jaycee Holt, but the ball was fielded too quickly to score the trailing runner. Another pinch-hitter, Olivia Tindell, popped out to end the inning.
The Blazers move to 0-6 in conference play and will host Charlotte next weekend.
