Blazers Pick Up Two Wins at the Tiger Beach Challenge

BATON ROUGE, La.Β -Β It was anotherΒ strongΒ day for the UAB Blazers beach volleyball team in Baton Rouge, LouisianaΒ as the BlazersΒ earned two victories at the Tiger Beach Challenge,Β defeatingΒ TulaneΒ 3-2Β and HCUΒ 5-0.Β Β
The Blazers (6-3) opened the day against Conference USA foeΒ Tulane (4-4).Β UABΒ receivedΒ anotherΒ strongΒ performanceΒ from Jasmine Haas and Olivia Stant, who wonΒ in straight setsΒ on Court 1. The victoryΒ moved StantΒ into sole possession of third placeΒ in program historyΒ for individual career winsΒ with 59.Β Β
Claudia Stockard and Lauren Cairo improvedΒ toΒ 6-2Β on the seasonΒ with aΒ three-setΒ victoryΒ over Sam O'Connor and Ali Amirah on Court 3.Β Continuing theirΒ strong start, Olivia ChychrunΒ and Ava Grace Knott defeated Lauren Mann and Gabbi Kucinski 2-0 to clinch theΒ dual.Β With theΒ win,Β UAB hasΒ claimedΒ three out of the last four meetingsΒ againstΒ the Green Wave.Β Β
In the afternoon finale, the BlazersΒ sweptΒ HCUΒ (1-7)Β 5-0.Β UABΒ didΒ notΒ drop a setΒ across the five courts. Stockard and Cairo earned their seventh win of the season with a straight-set victory.Β
"Claudia and Cairo delivered two dual-clinching wins at the 3's,"Β headΒ coach Delaney Rose said.Β "ThatΒ kind of grit instilled a new level of confidence and belief in ourselves."Β Β
The duo improved to 5-0 on Court 3 on the year.Β Β
"I'mΒ so proud of our team's performance this weekend, butΒ I'mΒ even more impressed with how we responded when our backs were against the wall,"Β Rose said. "We took what was ours and earned each win."Β Β
UAB travelsΒ to the West Coast next weekend to competeΒ inΒ the LBSU Invite in Long Beach, California.Β Β
