GAINESVILLE, FL – UAB Baseball (1-2) could not get the bats going on Saturday as the 13th ranked Florida Gators (2-1) took both games of the doubleheader on Saturday. Florida won game one 11-0 and game two 6-1.
GAME 1
The Gator bats came out red hot as they matched their hit total from Friday night in the first inning on Saturday. In the first inning alone, Florida scored nine runs on 10 hits and jumped out a commanding lead.
In the bottom half of the second, Blake Cyr hit his second home run of the day for the Gators' 10th run of the afternoon.
Florida added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning after a Blazer miscue to make the score 11-0.
Christian Helmers recorded his first career appearance and came out of the UAB bullpen. Helmers' final line was 4.0 innings, five strikeouts and did not allow a walk. Helmers finished the day with a 71% strike rate.
Florida's Aidan King pitched a gem for the Gators. The sophomore right-hander threw six scoreless innings and struck out four.
GAME 2
The beginning of game two was similar to game one on Saturday as Florida jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to a 2-run home run by Brendan Lawson and a sacrifice fly by Cyr.
Both sides traded zeroes until the top of the sixth inning when John Paul Head drove in his first run of the season on a double down the left field line to put the Blazers on the board.
The Gators would answer back with two more in the bottom half of the inning. Cole Stanford recorded an RBI ground out and an RBI single by Colton Schwarz extended the lead.
The final run of the evening came on a Cash Strayer solo home run to left field to cap off a 6-1 win for Florida.
