CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UAB women's basketball (7-7, 0-2 American) fell at Charlotte (8-7, 2-0 American) 71-60 on Saturday afternoon at Halton Arena.

Molly Moffitt led the Blazers with 20 points and eight rebounds. Monae' Duffy recorded 14 points and six rebounds. Cali Smallwood came away with eight points, while Sofia Munoz and Eleecia Carter each recorded seven points each. Journey Armstead led UAB with six assists.

Charlotte was led by Tanajah Hayes with 23 points, while Princess Anderson and Zoe best registered 11 points each. Janavia Gage was also in double figures with 10 points.

Game Notes

Moffitt led the Green and Gold with 20 points and eight rebounds.
Moffitt was 8-for-9 from field goal range and 4-for-5 from the three-point range.
Moffitt recorded her 500^th career point.
Duffy scored in double figures with 14 points while adding six rebounds.
Duffy was 7-for-9 from the field and had four defensive rebounds and two offensive rebounds.
The Blazers shot 46 percent from the floor and 67 percent from the free throw line.
Charlotte shot 35 percent from the field, 33 percent from the three-point range and 80 percent at the line.
UAB scored 28 points from the paint and 18 points off turnovers.

How It Happened

Charlotte got off to a quick start and took an early lead at the 6:02 mark [9-4].
Neither team was able to score until the 3:37 mark when the 49ers extended its lead [12-4].
The Blazers were able to shrink Charlotte's lead fueled by Moffitt and Carter [17-14].
A layup from Charlotte closed out the frame with a five-point lead [19-14].
UAB was able to briefly take its first lead three times with paint touches [26-25].
Charlotte went on an 8-0 run to close out the frame [33-26].
Moffitt made a layup off a turnover to cut into the 49ers lead by five going into halftime [33-28].
Charlotte opened the third with a 9-0 run [46-33].
The 49ers were able to extend its lead to double digits with a three [53-43].
UAB answered with shooting, including a layup from Smallwood [53-45].
Charlotte was able to close the frame with a late spurt to lead [58-45].
The Blazers trimmed the deficit to eight early behind Moffitt and Duffy [58-50].
The 49ers answered with timely threes and fast break points to lead by 11 [65-54].
UAB continued to battle on the glass but couldn't close to gap in the final frame [71-60].
