Blazers Fall to Samford in Weekend Finale

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Blazer Volleyball lost in straight sets at Samford to close the Alabama Showdown. The Bulldogs hit .357 with four attackers notching 10 or more kills, routing the UAB defense.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Samford jumped out to a 13-3 lead in the first set, foreshadowing the rest of the match early. The 10-point lead held up as Samford would go on to win the set, 25-15. The Bulldogs sided out 68% of the time, stifling any chance of a UAB run.
Building on their first set dominance, Samford sided out at a 75% clip while hitting .351, playing better statistically, despite only winning the set by five. UAB took a 7-4 lead to begin the set, but a five-point run by Samford flipped all momentum to the Bulldogs, allowing them to cruise to a 2-0 lead.
Again, after a 3-1 Blazer lead, Samford went on a five-point run to take the lead, never looking back. While leading 6-5, Samford won nine of the next twelve points, allowing them to withstand a four-point UAB run later in the set. Samford was able to cruise to a second 25-20 set victory.
STANDOUTS
Kennedy Vaughn led the Blazers for the second match in a row with 16 kills. Her nine kills in the third set were the most by a Blazer in a single set this season, topping her eight in the fourth set yesterday.
Meg Jarrett totaled 18 digs, leading the Blazers.
