BIRMINGHAM – UAB men's golf head coach Charlie Hoyle has named Jackson Wedgworth as his new assistant coach.
"I am so excited to add Jackson to our coaching staff," Hoyle said. "He brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience with him to the program as well as a level of maturity that is sure to be a positive influence on our players. Jackson has had success as a player and as a coach and he is going to be a major asset in developing and mentoring our players."
The Blazers added Wedgeworth from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. The Bulldogs won the last two NJCAA Division II National Championships while Wedgeworth was on staff. He has been with the Bulldogs the last three seasons, where he also competed collegiately from 2016-18 and helped lead MGCCC to the 2018 National Championship as a player.
He then transferred to North Alabama to compete three years at the Division I level. At North Alabama, Wedgeworth was named Second Team All-ASUN in 2021 and an All-American Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America. He was a three-time ASUN conference Player of the Week and won the 2020 Auburn Invitational.
Wedgeworth advanced to the U.S. Open Final Qualifying in 2023 by shooting a 69 in Marksville, La. This earned him one of six spots that were allocated for the 111-man field.
Wedgeworth and his wife Ema were married in January of 2024. He continues to play golf professionally.
