Ericsson and Bruce Pace UAB at Old Corkscrew Intercollegiate

BIRMINGHAM – Led by a pair of top 10 finishes from freshman Jonathan Ericsson and senior Paul Bruce, the UAB men's golf team placed fifth at the Old Corkscrew Intercollegiate in Estero, Fla.
Ericsson notched the best finish of his career by tying for third place overall at -2. Ericsson also tied his lowest collegiate round with a four-under 68 to open the tournament, and shot a two-under 70 in the final round to finish 68-76-70 = 214 (-2).
Bruce also notched his best finish of the season as he tied for seventh overall at +1. Bruce shot two under in the opening round and went 70-73-74 = 217 for the tournament.
Morgan Slaton (72-79-75 = 226) was UAB's third finisher at +10 and he tied for 29th overall. He was followed by John Bruce (81-76-73 = 230, +14) who tied for 41st overall and Bernhard Koster (74-79-80 = 233, +17) who tied for 46th overall.
UAB shot +16 for the tournament and was 12 shots behind Florida Atlantic who won the tournament at +4. Nolan Harper of Florida Gulf Coast won the individual title at -7.
The Blazers now enter postseason play with the AAC Championship which is scheduled for April 21-23 at the Ritz-Carlton Members Club in Sarasota, Fla.
