UAB Football Completes First Day of Spring Practice

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB football team held its first of 15 spring practices on Wednesday morning at the Football Operations Center.

STORYLINES:
- Under the direction of third-year head coach Trent Dilfer, the Blazers opened spring practice with 96 players on the roster.
- The Blazers return three starters from last year's team: Quarterback Jalen Kitna, guard JonDarius Morgan and safety Sirad Bryant.
- Additionally, the special teams unit (which ranked 35th nationally last year), returns three starters in reigning AAC Special Teams Player of the Year Jonah Delange, punter Patrick Foley and long snapper Caleb Moser.
- There are a bunch of new coaching faces for UAB in spring practice, including: Steve Russ (Defensive Coordinator), Brent Vieselmeyer (Secondary), Ryan Lewis Sr. (Cornerbacks), Sam Mills III (Defensive Line), Tee Mitchell (Nickels), Jonathan Celestin (Linebackers).
- The players will be wearing random numbers this spring and have the opportunity to earn their jersey number for the fall.
- UAB will be back on the field on Friday for its second practice.
