Women’s Basketball Travels to UIC for WNIT Opener

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's basketball team begins its postseason with a first-round matchup at UIC in the 2025 WNIT on Friday, March 21. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CT and will air live on ESPN+.
This is the second consecutive season the Blazers have earned bid to the WNIT after playing in the first round at Southern Miss in 2023-24. It marks the eighth all-time appearance in the WNIT and the fifth under head coach Randy Norton.
The Blazers enter Friday's contest 16-15 overall and 7-11 in conference play, while the Flames are 14-17 on the season and 10-10 in league play. The game marks the first time the two teams have faced each other.
UIC is coming off a 77-70 loss against Missouri State last Friday in the quarterfinals of the MVC Tournament, while the Blazers fell a 76-63 versus Rice on March 9 in the second round AAC Tournament.
Jade Weathersby led the Blazers with 18 points and 11 rebounds to earn her 10th double-double of the season against the Owls. Eleecia Carter recorded 15 points and a season-best eight assists, while Tracey Bershers registered 11 points.
Maddie Walsh leads the Blazers with 11.6 points per game while Weathersby is following behind with 11.2 points. Sara Bershers is averaging 9.3 points while T. Bershers is recording 6.7 points per game. Molly Moffitt is registering 6.1 points and Carter is averaging 5.8 points per game. Weathersby is leading in the rebound category with 9.4 per game.
Offensively, the Flames are led by Makiyah Williams (9.8 ppg), Krystyna Ellew (9.0 ppg), Keimari Rimmer (8.9 ppg) and Ky Dempsey-Toney (8.2 ppg).
