Baseball Signs Seven on Signing Day

BIRMINGHAM - Head Baseball Coach Casey Dunn has announced the signings of seven players to UAB Baseball's 2026 class.
The Blazers signed six players from the prep ranks and one junior college prospect. All seven prospects are pipeline players with four coming from the state of Alabama, and one each from Mississippi, Florida, and Tennessee. Additionally, four of the six high school prospects attended a Casey Dunn Baseball Camp during their respective high school careers.
Blaze Gerhart (JUCO) - Sardis, AL / Sardis HS / Snead State CC / 6'0" / RHP/INF
- Scouting report: Slashed .306/.439/.558 in freshman year at SSCC. Recorded 45 hits, 27 RBI, 16 doubles, and seven home runs offensively. Tallied 25 strikeouts in 15 innings on the mound across 11 appearances.
John Lindsey - Petal, MS / Petal HS / 6'3" / INF
- Scouting report: Real power hitter from left side, high exit velo, standout at East Coast Pro. Two-sport standout at Petal HS where he plays defensive end on the football team.
Cutter Smith - Naples, FL / Community School of Naples / 6'4" / INF
- Scouting report: Bloodlines to the MLB, son of Rays farmhand. Hit .410 this summer in PG events, has the ability to use all parts of the field with power potential.
Eli Hubbert - Maplesville, AL / Maplesville HS / 6'2" / RHP
- Scouting report: Easy operation, 90-93 mph fastball with three other pitches in his arsenal, and is an elite strikethrower. Two-sport athlete and plays WR at Maplesville.
Porter Murff - Clarksville, TN / Clarksville HS / 6'3" / LHP
- Scouting report: Long levers, up to 89 mph on his fastball per Perfect Game. Throws three pitches for strikes and is a late bloomer. Played on a talented Southeast Mad Mavs team with plenty of Power 4 prospects.
Rhys Jones - Birmingham, AL / Spain Park HS / 5'8" / INF
- Scouting report: Ball player. Always in the right spots with lots of big hits in his career and is someone you want on your team. He always shows up when the lights turn on. Good bat to ball skills and is a plus defender. Plays for local travel ball power Excel Baseball.
Ashton Blair - Alabaster, AL / Thompson HS / 6'1" / RHP
- Scouting report: High spin, good stuff, real ability to spin the baseball. High energy and exudes confidence on the mound. Comes from local prep power Thompson HS.
