Crook Named Back-to-Back Offensive Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Junior opposite hitter Jorda Crook earned her second straight American Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor following another undefeated week for Blazer Volleyball. Crook averaged 5.00 kills per set for the second consecutive week, once again leading the American. With 35 total kills, seven block assists, and an ace, Crook's 5.64 points per set led the conference.
Crook and the Blazers opened the week with a home sweep vs Memphis. Crook had a match-high 14 kills with just four errors on 35 attempts to hit .286 against the Tigers. UAB's win secured the first season sweep over Memphis since 2012. Crook had seven digs and a pair of blocks to round out her stat line.
The Ohatchee, Ala. Native finished her week with another match-high 21 kills in the Blazers' 3-1 upset win over South Florida. Crook recorded a .364 hit percentage, her best in conference play this season. Crook was dominant on defense with five total blocks and seven digs in the win against the Bulls. UAB snapped a six-match losing streak against South Florida, boosting UAB's postseason chances.
UAB enters the final week of the American season needing a pair of wins to stay alive in the race for the American Championships next week. Along with two road victories, UAB's most likely path to Tampa involves a pair of UTSA losses and at least one Temple loss. The Blazers visit East Carolina at 6 p.m. CT on Friday before closing the regular season at 1 p.m. CT at Charlotte on Sunday.
