BIRMINGHAM - UAB Baseball opens its fall slate on Friday as the Blazers travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech in a 12-inning game. The Yellow Jackets are the Blazers' first of two games this fall.
Georgia Tech comes off the 2025 season with a 41-19 (19-11) record and were the ACC Regular Season Champions by 1.5 games over Florida State, UAB's second fall opponent. The Yellow Jackets are led by reigning ACC Freshman of the Year Alex Hernandez and First Team All-ACC selection Drew Burress.
UAB welcomes 19 newcomers to the roster this fall consisting of three 4-year transfers, 10 coming from the junior college ranks, and six true freshmen. Alex Dupuy (LSU Eunice) and Baylor Roberts (Saltillo HS) look to add immediate impact to the lineup in their first seasons in the program.
The Blazers return 17 players from the 2025 roster. Wesley Helms and Alex Cheeseman are the lone two position players who played in at least 70% of the games in 2025. Helms returns for his senior season after leading UAB in hits in conference play and also leads returning players in six different offensive categories. Cheeseman leads all returners in stolen bases and is second among returners in hits and runs scored. John Paul Head and Landon Beaver look to have breakout years in their sophomore campaigns.
On the mound for the Green and Gold, Chase Ingram leads the returners in strikeouts and innings pitched. Brendan Conner saw time in multiple roles last season and will look to build on his success in 2026.
Friday's 12-inning game will begin at 5 p.m. ET/4 p.m. CT at Russ Chandler Stadium in Atlanta and is open to the public. There will be no live stream or live stats available.
