Women’s Basketball Hosts Rice for Midweek Matchup

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's basketball is back in Bartow Arena on Wednesday, January 22 to host Rice. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CT and will air live on ESPN+.
The Blazers enter Wednesday's contest 12-7 overall and 3-4 in conference play, while the Owls are 10-8 on the season and 3-3 in league play. The game marks the 25th time the two teams have faced each other, and Rice leads the all-time series 13-11.
The Owls are coming off a 65-56 win against East Carolina on Saturday, while UAB fell to UTSA 73-63 on Saturday.
Jade Weathersby scored 15 points while Sara Bershers registered 10 points. The Blazers shot 40 percent for the game and the Roadrunners shot 43 percent. UAB scored 24 points in the paint, 22 bench points and 12 points off turnovers.
In the fourth, UAB's offense shot 57 percent to cut into the Roadrunners 16-point lead after the third, while the Blazers defense held UTSA to shooting 28 percent. Eleecia Carter made a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left to get within eight at 71-63, but the Roadrunners made both free throws after being fouled to win by 10 points.
Weathersby scored eight points in the fourth to help break into UTSA's lead, while Carter tallied six points and Genevive Wedemeyer recorded five points.
Maddie Walsh leads UAB with 12.8 points per game while Journey Armstead is following behind with 10.8 points. S. Bershers is averaging 9.1 points while Weathersby is recording 8.9 points per game. Tracey Bershers is registering 6.1 points and Molly Moffitt is averaging 4.8 points per game. Weathersby is leading in the rebound category with 8.7 per game.
Offensively, Rice is led by Malia Fisher (11.4 ppg), Dominique Ennis (10.8 ppg) and Victoria Flores (9.1 ppg).
