BIRMINGHAM β UAB's Voice of the Blazers David Crane has been named the Alabama Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sports Media Association (NSMA), the organization recently announced.
Β
Now in his 18th year serving as UAB's play-by-play announcer for football, men's basketball and baseball, Crane has delivered some of the Blazers' most iconic calls throughout the years and has provided a steady voice for UAB's biggest moments in program history.
Β
Crane is sharing this year's award with Barry McKnight of the Troy Radio Network as the two were voted as a tie for Alabama's Sportscaster of the Year. Ian Eagle of CBS, Westwood One, Nets/YES Network and TNT was named the National Sportscaster of the Year, while Mike Tirico of NBC and Charlie Jones of NBC/ABC were named to the Sportscasters Hall of Fame.
Β
"It truly is an honor to be nominated, but it's flattering beyond words to win," Crane said. "My goal has always been to deliver a broadcast that UAB fans enjoy. I'm humbled to know others in this profession apparently do, as well. Barry McKnight is a true gentleman and a tremendous broadcaster. I look forward to sharing the stage with my friend and representing our great state this summer in Greensboro."
Β
The NSMA will honor its award winners and Hall of Fame inductees during the organization's 65th awards weekend and national convention, to be held this summer in North Carolina.
