Burns Earns AAC Honorable Mention

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's soccer had a player notch a weekly honor, as officials from the league office announced on Monday that Abbey Burns earned honorable mention.
Burns, a junior midfielder, played a huge role in helping UAB tie 3-3 at Samford. The Bulldogs were the first on the board with a goal in the 14th minute, but Burns was able to equalize the match with her second goal of the season in the 25th minute.
As the first half was closing out in the 38th minute, Burns netted her second goal of the game and third goal this season to put the Blazers up 2-1 heading into halftime.
Samford was able to tie the match up 2-2 in the 79th minute, followed by another goal in the in the 83rd minute to take the lead 3-2.
A little over a minute later, Sydney Bolinger tied the match 3-3 with an assist from Maia Sirota. The goal marked Bolinger's first collegiate goal and Sirota's second assist of the season.
Up next, the Blazers will be back at PNC Field against Troy on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. CT.
