Baseball Season Ends With Loss in Clearwater

CLEARWATER - The UAB baseball team (26-29, 13-14 AAC) dropped the elimination game of the AAC tournament against Rice (23-35, 11-16 AAC). The Blazers were shutout in a 9-0 contest where UAB left 11 on base.
Rice struck first by scoring one run in three consecutive innings. The scoring started in the 2nd inning when Jack Riedel hit a solo home run to left field. The Owls scored another two runs on three hits in innings three and four. Rice led 3-0 after four innings.
UAB left five on base through the first four innings. UAB had only one leadoff hit through five innings, with Rice retiring four of the first five. On the other side, six out of the seven leadoff batters reached for Rice. Blayze Berry earned his 5th strikeout of the day in the 6th inning, breaking the UAB single season record with 99. John Luke Marlin came in to relieve Blayze Berry.
Tyler Waugh pinch hit for Peyton Puckett in the 7th inning. He started the inning off with a double to left field. Mayes White then stepped up and put runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs. Rice was able to get out of the inning with two flyouts and a strikeout.
Rice hit a sacrifice fly and then a double in the 8th inning to score three more runs. Max Johnson hit the double into right center to score two runs. The sacrifice fly came from Manny Garza. Rice led 7-0 after eight innings. Jack Riedel started and finished the scoring by hitting another home run, but this time in the 9th inning.
That ends the Blazers season with a final record of 26-29.
