UAB Beach Earns Ranked Win, Finishes 1-3 at Florida State

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB beach volleyball team finished the FSU Unconquered Invitational at 1-3 overall, which included a win over No. 20 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
The win over TAMUCC was UAB's second ranked win of the season in addition to beating then-ranked No. 20 Tampa in Louisiana back in March.
The Blazers (13-11) faced four ranked teams this weekend and additionally sustained losses to No. 4 Florida State (5-0), No. 10 Loyola Marymount (5-0) and No. 14 FIU (4-1).
Against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UAB was victorious on courts one, three and five for the victory. The freshman pair of Addison Atkins and Lauren Mohler got UAB on the board with a three set victory and rallied to win the final two sets.
UAB's Court 1 pair of Arden Copping and Jasmine Haas then gave UAB its second point with a straight set victory, while Brooke Pertuit and Olivia Chychrun secured the victory on Court 3 with a 21-17, 8-21, 15-11 victory.
Against FIU, Olivia Stant and Madeline Sigmon earned UAB's lone point with a straight set 21-14, 21-11 victory on Court 4. However, Courts one, two and five also went three sets and FIU was able to win those courts to avoid the upset.
The Blazers return to Birmingham next weekend to host the Blazer Beach Bash on Saturday and Sunday, April 13-14. UAB will face Southern Miss at 2 p.m. on Saturday for Senior Day, followed by Mercer (10 a.m.) and North Alabama (12 p.m.) on Sunday.
