UAB Beach Volleyball Defeats Southern Miss, 4-1

BIRMINGHAM β The UAB beach volleyball team defeated Southern Miss on Senior Day by the score of 4-1 Saturday afternoon at Blazer Beach.

After honoring their four seniors, and some of the winningest players in program history, the Blazers earned wins on courts one, two, three and five for the victory.

UAB is now 14-11 overall and has two big matches on Sunday against Mercer and North Alabama to conclude the Blazer Beach Bash.

UAB's Court 2 pair of Jessica Ennis and Isabel Day gave the Blazers their first point of the day with a straight-set 21-13, 21-19 victory. For Ennis, it was her 52nd career victory and she is now tied for third in school history for career wins.

Southern Miss tied it up with a win on Court 4, but UAB then swept the second flight with straight set wins on courts one, three and five.

The freshman tandem of Addison Atkins and Lauren Mohler gave UAB a 2-1 lead with a 21-11, 22-20 victory on Court 5, followed by Brooke Pertuit and Olivia Chychrun securing the team win on Court 3 with a 21-11, 21-7 victory.

Court 1 was the last to finish as Arden Copping and Jasmine Haas improved their team-best record to 17-7 with a 21-15, 21-16 victory. Copping continues to add to her school record with each win and now has 66 for her career.

UAB will face Mercer at 10 a.m. on Sunday, followed by North Alabama at 12 p.m.
