BIRMINGHAM – The UAB beach volleyball team earned the No. 4 seed in the Conference USA Tournament and will open action on Thursday at 1 p.m. against No. 5 Tulane at Sugar Beach in Youngsville, Louisiana.
The Blazers finished the regular season with a school recording tying 18 wins and enter the double-elimination tournament at 18-13 overall. UAB also concluded the regular season with a 4-1 victory over Tulane in New Orleans and will face the Green Wave again Thursday.
UAB, who is receiving votes in the AVCA Top 20, has been led by the record-setting Court 1 pair of Arden Copping and Jasmine Haas the entire season. The duo has played every played every match on the top court and enter postseason play with an overall record of 21-9.
The 21 wins together are the most single season wins by a pair in school history, as are the 21 wins on Court 1. If the duo can get two more wins, they will set the overall record for most single season which is currently held by Ella Alexander (2022) and Brooke Pertuit (2023) who each had 22 individual wins in those seasons.
Additionally, Copping is the winningest player in school history with 70 career victories, while the win at Tulane gave Haas the most Court 1 wins in school history with 35. Just a sophomore, Haas has tallied 35 of her 41 career wins on Court 1.
Court 2 has also had a tremendous season as senior Jessica Ennis and freshman Isabel Day have played every match together and are 17-14 overall. Ennis has the third most wins in program history (55), while Day is in the running for CUSA Freshman of the Year and is currently tied for second at UAB for most wins by a freshman. Their 17 Court 2 wins are also a single season record.
If the Blazers are able to defeat Tulane, they will advance to face the top seeded TCU Horned Frogs, who are ranked sixth nationally. That match is scheduled for Friday at 10 a.m. on ESPN+. The entire winner's bracket will air on ESPN+, which culminates with the championship match at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
