Men’s Golf Places Eighth at AAC Championship

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's golf team finished in eighth place at the American Athletic Conference Championship this weekend at the Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Fla.
The Blazers (283-300-277 = 860, +20) shot their low score of 277 (-3) in the final round and moved from 12th place entering the day into eighth.
Paul Bruce led UAB's efforts by tying for 14th overall (69-73-69 = 211, +1). His score and his finish were both season bests for the junior.
Will Stelt was UAB's second finishers and moved up 23 spots on the final day to tie for 29th overall. Stelt shot a two-under 68 in the first round and a three-under 67 in the final round but was hindered by an 82 (+12) in the second round and finished at +7 for the tournament.
Freshman Seb Cave (76-73-69 = 218, +8) finished in a tie for 38th, while Morgan Slaton (70-77-72 = 219, +9) tied for 41st.
UAB's final golfer was John Bruce who withdrew from the first round. Trace Bracknell (+7) played the second round and Bruce (+9) played the final round and placed 60th overall.
South Florida (-12) won the tournament by seven strokes over SMU (-5), while Jake Peacock of USF also took home the individual titles by six strokes and finished at -11.
