Moore, DeShields Named AAC All-Conference

BIRMINGHAM – The American Conference announced on Friday that redshirt sophomore Mia Moore earned All-Conference Third Team and All-Newcomer Team, while Denim DeShields also earned All-Conference Third Team following a vote by the conference's head coaches.
Moore, a AAC Player of the Week and four-time AAC Honor Roll selection, leads the Blazers and is ninth in scoring in the American with 15.6 points per game. She had 25 double-figure scoring games, 13 double-doubles, 13 10-plus rebounding games and eight 20-plus scoring games. Her 13 double-doubles are the most any player has earned in the league this season and her 13 10-plus rebounding games is tied for first in the conference.
Moore's 262 rebounds and 9.0 rebounds per game ranks fourth in the league and first on the team. Her .465 field goal percentage is fifth on the AAC leaderboard.
DeShields, a sophomore, finished the regular season averaging 13.0 points per game. Her 13.0 points ranks second on the team and 14th in the American standings. She had a career-high 31 points against SMU.
The three-time AAC Honor Roll selection is averaging 5.3 assists per game which ranks first in the league. DeShields matched her career-high 11 assists this season at East Carolina, which is tied for the most in single game in the AAC. She also ranks first with the most 10-plus assists games.
UAB (18-12, 9-9 AAC) is the No. 7 seed and faces the No. 10 seed Rice (15-14, 9-9 AAC) on Sunday in the Second Round of the 2024 American Conference Tournament in Fort Worth, Texas. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
