UAB WBB Falls in Regular Season Finale to Wichita State, 68-65

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's basketball team fell to Wichita State 68-65 to close out the regular season on Tuesday night in Bartow Arena.
The Blazers move to 18-12 overall and 9-9 in league play, while Wichita State improves to 9-21 on the season and 5-13 in AAC play.
Mia Moore led UAB with 16 points and 12 rebounds for her 13th double-double on the season. Moore was 6-of-12 from the floor and 3-for-3 from the free throw line. Maddie Walsh recorded 12 points, while Jade Weathersby tallied 11 and went 4-for-9 in field goal range.
Ashton Elley and Kylee Schneringer both came away with nine points. Elley was 3-of-7 from the field and the long range, while Schneringer was 3-of-6 from the field.
Wichita State started the game with a 4-0 lead, but the Blazers fought back with a 5-0 run with 4:09 left on the clock and headed into halftime leading 17-9.
The Blazers went on a 5-1 run to begin the second quarter and continued to hold the led for the entire quarter. Wichita State would only get with eight with 49 second left in the quarter. UAB heading into halftime with the lead (33-25).
Wichita State narrowed the Blazers lead in the third quarter, by shooting 50 percent. Heading into the final frame, the UAB lead by four at 47-43.
With 7:18 on the clock in the final frame, DJ McCarty made a field goal to tie the game at 50-50. The game with back and fourth, with the Blazers mainly holding the lead until there was 24 second left on the clock. Daniela Abies hit a field goal to put the Shockers up by one (66-65).
After Wichita State made two free throws Maddie Walsh had a 3-point shot to tie the game, but didn't make it with time running out on the clock.
