BIRMINGHAM – Head Coach A.J. Daugherty has named Carson Owens as UAB Softball's Coordinator of Player Development for the 2024 season.
Owens reunites with Daugherty after spending the last two seasons at Wallace State Community College. Owens worked on Daugherty's staff as an assistant for the 2022 season before being named the head coach for the 2023 season.
"Carson is a bright, up-and-coming coach," Daugherty said. "He brings an energy and passion for our sport that instantly improves our program. His familiarity with our systems and processes makes him a great addition and I look forward to seeing his positive impact on our team."
In his only season as head coach at Wallace State, Owens led the Lions to a 52-7 record and to the NJCAA Softball World Series. For his efforts, he was the 2023 ACCC and NJCAA South District Coach of the Year.
As an assistant under Daugherty, Owens helped the Lions to a 56-4 record as Wallace State was recognized as the 2022 NFCA South/National Coaching Staff of the Year.
Owens was a student manager at Wallace State from 2017-19 where he earned his associates degree in applied science, then went on to be a student manager at the University of Alabama from 2019-21. He earned a bachelor's of science in marketing with a minor in sport management from Alabama in 2021.
Following Alabama, Owens was the assistant coach at Southern Utah University in the fall of 2021 before joining Daugherty's staff at Wallace State in January of 2022.
