Temple Outlasts UAB Women’s Basketball, 86-72

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's basketball team fell to Temple 86-72 in Bartow Arena on Wednesday night.
The Blazers move to 17-8 on the season and 8-5 in league play, while Temple improves to 14-10 overall and 8-4 in AAC play.
UAB shot 43 percent in the contest, but allowed the Owls to shoot 52 percent for the game. Temple also out rebounded the Blazers 40-32.
Mia Moore led UAB with 22 points and 11 rebounds to earn her twelfth double-double of the season. Maddie Walsh was also in double figures with 16 points on 5-of-7 from the field and 2-of-2 from the long range. Kylee Schneringer was the third Blazer that scored double figures with 13 points on 6-of-9 from the field.
Moore scored six of UAB's 16 points in the first quarter. Ashton Elley also contributed six points to help the Blazers have a 16-15 lead heading into the second quarter.
Temple found some momentum in the second quarter and went on a 9-0 run to put the Owls up 35-20 with 4:53 left to play. Temple ultimately outscored UAB 32-7 in the second quarter and took a 47-23 lead into the halftime break.
The Blazers outscored Temple in the third quarter 26-21 and shot 60 percent on 9-of-15 from the field and 2-of-3 from the 3-point range. The Owls led 68-49 heading into the fourth.
UAB had one final run and got as close as 11 points after the Blazers went on a 7-0 run, but the lead was too large for UAB to overcome.
The Blazers back in action this Saturday, Feb. 17 in Bartow Arena to take on Rice at 1 p.m.
