UAB Heads Midwest to Face Illinois State and Southern Illinois

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's basketball travels to the Midwest to face Illinois State on Friday, December 20 and Southern Illinois on Sunday, December 22. Friday's tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT and Sunday's game is set for 12 p.m. Both games will air live on ESPN+.
The Blazers enter Friday's contest 7-3, while Illinois State is 6-4 on the season. The game marks the second time the two teams have faced each other, and the Redbirds lead the all-time series 1-0. Southern Illinois is 2-6 for the year and the game marks the fourth matchup. UAB leads the all-time series 3-0.
Illinois State is coming off an 79-52 victory at Chicago State last Sunday, while UAB defeated New Orleans 66-60 on Wednesday. Southern Illinois fell 59-71 at SIUE last Sunday.
Maddie Walsh led the Blazers with 21 points and went 4-of-7 from the long range. Journey Armstead registered 13 points and six assists, while Sara Bershers recorded 11 points against New Orleans.
Rayne Tucker came away with eight points and six rebounds and Jade Weathersby led the Green and Gold with nine rebounds.
Against the Privateers, the game saw 23 lead changes and five tied scores. UAB shot 43 percent and held New Orleans to shooting 33 percent.
Walsh leads UAB with 13.3 points per game while Bershers is following behind with 10.4 points. Weathersby is averaging 10.0 points while Armstead is recording 9.0 points per game. Tucker is averaging 8.8 points and Tracey Bershers is registering 7.8 points per game. Weathersby is leading in the rebound category with 9.5 per game.
Offensively, Illinois State is led by Shannon Dowell who averages 14.2 points per game, Elyce Knudsen (13.8 ppg), Nevaeh Thomas (13.5 ppg) and Addison Martin (10.2 ppg).
Southern Illinois is offensively led by Gift Uchenna who averages 15.1 points per game, Isabella Palmqvist (8.4 ppg) and Tyranny Brown (7.8 ppg).
