UAB Falls 2-0 to Rice in the Quarterfinals of the AAC Women’s Soccer Championship

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – UAB women's soccer (7-5-5) lost in the quarterfinals of the AAC Championship, 2-0, to No. 4 Rice (12-5-2). 
In the first half, the Blazers outshot the Owls 9-5 with five shots on goal for UAB. The score remained 0-0 heading into the half.
In the 70th minute Rice took a free kick and found Sophie Zhang to put the Owls in the lead at 1-0. Avery Berryman had a chance equalize the match in the 73rd minute, but the Rice goalkeeper was able to make the save. The Owls then extended their lead 2-0 when Jules Johnston netted a goal in the 75th minute off another free kick.
In the 79th minute Berryman had two shots on goal, but both were saved by the Rice keeper.
The UAB women's soccer team finished its second season in the American Athletic Conference with a 7-5-5 record overall and a 4-2-4 conference record.
