UAB Falls to Longwood at the Paradise Jam

ST. THOMAS, USVI – UAB men's basketball (3-3) dropped its opening round matchup to Longwood (6-0) by a score of 89-81. Yaxel Lendeborg led the Blazers with 18 points and 10 rebounds while Ja'Borri McGhee added 16 points and four assists.
The Blazers struggled to knock down their open looks from beyond the arc, shooting only 3-for-17 from three for the game.
Christian Coleman and Ja'Borri McGhee got UAB started in the first half on the offensive end. Coleman scored all 14 of his points before the break while McGhee added nine points in the first half.
Only six minutes into the first half, Yaxel Lendeborg picked up his second foul, keeping him on the bench for most of the period.
With 16 seconds remaining in the first half, Christian Coleman put the Blazers ahead by two, but a foul on the opposite end gave the Lancers two free throws and the game was tied at the half at 43-43.
The Blazers jumped out to a five-point lead in the second half as Yaxel Lendeborg was finally able to get involved, but the Lancers answered right back.
Longwood opened a six-point lead with 10:50 remaining in the contest, but UAB promptly went on a 7-0 run to retake the lead.
Efrem "Butta" Johnson's layup with 6:12 remaining was the final time that the Blazers led in the contest. With the Blazers trailing by two, Michael Christmas knocked down a three to put the game just about out of reach with 1:04 to go. The Lancers were perfect from the free throw line down the stretch to finish the game at 89-81.

- Ja'Borri McGhee finished with 16 points and four assists while shooting 7-for-9 from the field.
- Tony Toney scored 10 points, grabbed a career high nine rebounds and dished out three assists.
- The Blazers have grabbed double-digit offensive rebounds in all six games so far this season.
