BIRMINGHAM - The UAB Cross Country team is back in action on Friday, October 18 as they travel to Tuscaloosa to compete in the Crimson Classic. The Blazers look to continue their stretch of strong finishes as they look for a team top-3 finish for the third time this season.
The Crimson Classic, hosted by Alabama, promises to have a strong field this season. Along with the Blazers and Crimson Tide, Missouri, Clemson, Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi State, and South Carolina are among the 18-team field set to race on Friday.
Sophomore Katie Keur looks to lead the team again in tomorrow's meet. The Oxford native is coming off her 6K personal-best time in the Georgia Tech XC Invitational on October 4. Keur finished 50th overall in this race a season ago.
Several other Blazers look to make a strong contribution to Friday's efforts. Kyra Hayes, Lidia Longo, and Lia Castillo have shown clear indication they can consistently anchor down the middle-of-the-pack spots for the Blazers.
Along with Keur and Hayes, Sangie Lincoln-Velez hopes to have a strong finish in her second season running to Crimson Classic. Lincoln-Velez was the third of three Blazers to finish in the top half of the race last fall.
Friday's women's 6K race will start at 9:20 a.m. at Harry Pritchett Running Park in Tuscaloosa. Live results will be shown here.
