UAB Men’s and Women’s Basketball Set to Attend Media Days

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's and women's basketball teams will be participating in the American Athletic Conference Media Day. The two-day event will take place on Oct. 13-14 at the Westin Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas in Irving, Texas.
The UAB Women's Basketball team will bring guard Maddie Walsh and guard Eleecia Carter along with head coach Randy Norton to Irving.
Norton enters his 12th season with the Blazers and has led UAB to 195 victories. Last season he led the Blazers to its fifth WNIT appearance which marked the fourth appearance for UAB under Norton.
Walsh averaged 10.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and started in all 32 games last season. She also had a .437 field goal percentage and was .418 from the long range. Carter enters her first season with the Blazers after spending one season at Chattanooga where she redshirted her freshman season.
UAB women's basketball returns to Bartow Arena to kick off the 2024-25 season on November 4 against West Alabama. Prior to the first regular season game, the Blazers will host an exhibition game against Shorter on October 30.
In addition to head coach Andy Kennedy, the UAB Men's Basketball team will be represented by forward Yaxel Lendeborg and guard Tony Toney.
Kennedy returns to UAB for his fifth season after overseeing the winningest four-year stretch in program history. He has led UAB to two NCAA Tournament appearances over the last three seasons and the program's first appearance in the NIT final. Over Kennedy's tenure, the Blazers are tied for 10th in the nation with 101 wins.
Lendeborg was named the American Conference Preseason Player of the Year and was the sole unanimous selection for the All-Conference First Team. Lendeborg averaged 13.8 points, 10.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 2.1 blocks per game last season while shooting 51.3 percent from the field and 80.0 percent from three. He set UAB and American Conference single-season records with 370 rebounds last season and was recognized as the league's Defensive Player of the Year.
Toney returns for his fifth season as a Blazer in 2024-25. Toney has been at UAB for the entirety of the winningest four-year stretch in UAB history and has helped the Blazers capture two conference tournament titles, reach the NCAA Tournament twice, and advance to the NIT title game for the first time in school history.
UAB men's basketball returns to Bartow Arena on November 4 against Vermont, which has reached the NCAA Tournament in each of the last three seasons. Prior to the regular season opener, the Blazers will face Western Kentucky in a charity exhibition in Bowling Green, Ky., on October 27 at 2 p.m. CT.
2024-25 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SEASON TICKETS
Season tickets for the 2024-25 UAB women's basketball season are available for $50 for general admission tickets. Reserved courtside seating is available for $115 and will be allocated bases on the Blazer Boosters Priority Point System in September.
