Women’s Basketball Travels to Face Wichita State

BIRMINGHAM – Winners of three in a row, the UAB women's basketball team looks to extend its streak on Thursday night at Wichita State. Tip from Charles Koch Arena is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Blazers enter the contest at 14-4 overall and are tied for first place in the AAC standings at 5-1. Wichita State is 6-13 overall and 2-5 in league play.
Last time out, UAB erased a 15-point first half deficit and defeated UTSA 54-53 behind a game-high 22 points from Denim DeShields. DeShields scored 10 of UAB's final 11 points down the stretch to lead the Blazers to victory.
Along with leading the AAC in assists per game (5.4), DeShields has turned up her scoring production and is averaging 18.0 ppg over her last six contests. She has three 20+ point games in her last six, including a season-high 31 vs. SMU. Overall, she has four 20+ point games this season and is averaging 12.3 points per game.
Mia Moore continues to be a Player of the Year candidate and leads the league in rebounding (9.6) and double-doubles (9). Moore is also pacing the team with an average of 15.6 points per game.
The Blazers lead the American in 3-point shooting at 35.5 percent and have been tremendous at defending the 3-point line, ranking fifth nationally by allowing opponents to make just 24.2 percent from long range.
Following UAB's game at Wichita State, the Blazers head to North Texas for a battle between the two first-place teams in the league on Sunday at 2 p.m.
