CHARLOTTE – UAB men's basketball (12-7, 4-2 AAC) fell at Charlotte (12-7, 6-1 AAC) on Tuesday night, 76-70, after the 49ers erased a 20-point deficit.
The Blazers jumped out to a 12-3 lead to open the contest with six quick points from Alejandro Vasquez. After the 49ers cut it back to a five-point game, the Blazers then went on a 16-1 run to take a 20-point lead at the 6:38 mark.
Charlotte rallied back late in the first half, outscoring the Blazers 16-6 in the final six minutes to put the score at 38-28 for UAB at the break.
In the second half, the 49ers maintained their pressure and strung together possessions on the offensive end. After working the lead down to just one possession, Charlotte tied the game at 54 with just over 10 minutes remaining with a wide open layup at the basket and then took the lead for the first time on the ensuing possession with a Lu'cye Patterson three.
UAB struggled to stop the 49ers on the defensive end over the final minutes. However, an Alejandro Vasquez layup and an Efrem "Butta" Johnson three cut the margin to 72-70 with 29 seconds remaining. Charlotte closed the game by going 4-for-4 at the free throw line to take the 76-70 victory.
