UAB Hosts Memphis in AAC Home Opener

BIRMINGHAM – Coming off a conference opening road victory at Florida Atlantic, the UAB women's basketball team plays its first ever AAC home game on Wednesday, Jan. 3, against Memphis. Tip is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
This is the 55th all-time meeting between the Blazers (10-3, 1-0 AAC) and the Tigers (4-8, 0-1 AAC) with Memphis leading the series 32-22. This is the first meeting since 2019 and UAB is 12-10 against the Tigers in Bartow Arena.
Wednesday's game is Blaze's Birthday Bash and all kids 12 and under get in free. Adult ticket prices remain the same and can be purchased by clicking here.
Denim DeShields was named to the AAC Honor Roll for the first time this season after leading the Blazers to a 65-53 win at Florida Atlantic last Saturday. DeShields led three players in double figures with a team-high 16 points and four assists at FAU.
DeShields has led the AAC in assists per game the entire season and currently has an average of 5.2. Her next assist will be the 200th of her career and the sophomore just recently surpassed 500 career points as well.
Her backcourt partner Mia Moore is leading the American Conference in rebounding at 10.0 per game. A 5-foot-6 guard, Moore is averaging a double-double with 16.9 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. She has had at least eight rebounds in 11 straight games and has double figure rebounds in seven games this season. She has tallied seven double-doubles and five games of 20+ points.
Memphis opened AAC play with 9-point home loss to Tulsa. The Tigers are paced by Madison Griggs who averages 17.2 points and has made 40 3-pointers so far this season.
Following Memphis, UAB begins a two-game road swing with games at Charlotte (Jan. 7) and East Carolina (Jan. 10).
