BIRMINGHAM – UAB men's tennis head coach Ezequiel Gils has added Matthew Coomer to the Blazers' staff as an assistant coach.
"Matt brings a wealth of experience coaching college tennis at all levels," Gils said. "He has been a Head Coach at three different universities and knows the game very well. His experience, commitment, and dependability will immediately make an impact on our program. We are lucky to have him!"
Coomer previously served as the head coach for the Indiana Tech men's and women's tennis programs. Prior to his time with the Warriors, Coomer spent time as the head coach at IU Southeast and at Centenary College.
From 2011-15, he served as an assistant coach at Louisville for both the women's (2011-13) and men's (2013-15) programs. Coomer coached the ITA national runner-up doubles team of Julia Fellerhoff and Rebecca Shine in 2013.
He was the No. 1 Singles player at IU Southeast, where he graduated in 2013 and was a KIAC All-Conference performer three times, including earning the league's Player of the Year honors in 2011.
