Volleyball Falls to ECU

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Volleyball concluded the first game of the series versus ECU with a straight-set loss to the Pirates. The Blazers fall to a record of 2-12 overall, with a 0-2 record in conference play.
IN THE SETS
The first set saw the Blazers and Pirates go back and forth between both teams. A total of five ties transpired before the ten-point mark of the set. ECU edged out the Blazers after an attack error and kill put the team in front by two. The Blazers responded with a 6-1 scoring run to lead 17-14. East Carolina responded with a run of their own with an uncontested seven-point run before a service error halted the momentum. The Blazers were held to two more points before losing set one 25-19.
Set two saw the Blazers jump to an early 8-4 lead before ECU rallied back to take the two-point lead in response. The Blazers trailed by as much as four before going on a few runs to tie the score at 18 after a kill from Madison Page and Chloe Rodriguez. UAB regained the lead after a pair of kills from freshman Jorda Crook and Mia Reese before ECU responded with a 5-1 run to go up two sets with a 25-22 win.
The Blazers entered the third set with a 9-3 lead to start, keeping the Pirates at bay before a five-point run put ECU within one. The Green and Gold maintained their lead, jumping out to a 14-12 lead before being held at 14 for seven points before Jay Collins ceased the run to put UAB within three. The Green and Gold added two more points before dropping the third and final set 18-25.

The Blazers hit .206 in the afternoon, with Chloe Rodriguez hitting .526 on 12 kills for UAB. Jorda Crook followed behind with eight.

UAB totaled four blocks to ECU's eight. Madison Page totaled three for the Green and Gold, with Crook totaling two.

The Green and Gold out-assisted the Pirates 33 to 31 with Lidya Canturk finishing with 30 assists, the most between either team.
UP NEXT
The Blazers return to action Sunday to finish game two of the series against East Carolina at noon.
