BIRMINGHAM – Led by a third-place finish from sophomore Grace Sinclair, the UAB women's golf team finished in a tie for second place at the Hoover Invitational.
After shooting 74-74 (+4) during Monday's first two rounds, Sinclair fired a two-under 70 in the final round to tie for third place overall at +2 (218). The 70 (-2) was a collegiate career low for Sinclair, as was her 54-hole total of 218.
Newcomer Brooke Wagner notched a top 10 finish by tying for sixth overall at +8. Wagner (72-75-77 = 224) fell two spots in the final round but notched the first top 10 finish of her Blazer career.
Freshman Ceci Lococo was UAB's third finisher at +12 (74-78-76 = 228, +12). An impact true freshman, Lococo was UAB's top finisher at its first tournament two weeks ago and is poised to be a major contributor to the lineup this season.
Senior Emilia Smith moved up seven spots in the final round to place in a tie for 30th overall (77-83-74 = 234, +18), while Anna Krieger tied for 41st overall (78-81-81 = 239, +23).
Freshman Tais Moreno led six Blazers who played as individuals as she finished in a tie for 26th (76-81-76 = 233, +17). Senior Millburn Ho finished one shot behind Moreno and recovered nicely from an opening round 84 to shoot 76-74 in her final two rounds as she tied for 30th overall with Smith.
The Blazers are now 11-13-1 overall this season and have already surpassed their wins total from last season. UAB is off for almost a month until its next competition which is scheduled for Oct. 16-17 at the Edisto Island Invitational hosted by College of Charleston in Edisto Island, S.C.
