Men's Soccer Hosts Charlotte to Open AAC Play

BIRMINGHAM - UAB men's soccer (0-3-2) will open conference play against Charlotte (1-1-1) on Saturday night at 7 p.m. CT at PNC Field. The Blazers will be recognizing Alumni at halftime of the match.

SERIES HISTORY
Charlotte leads the all-time series with a 25-9-5 record against the Blazers. The 49ers took last year's meeting in the Queen City, 3-0.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BLAZERS
The Blazers fell on the road at FGCU, 2-1, after a late goal gave the Eagles the lead with only 10 minutes to go. Zsombor Kalnoki-Kis added his first goal of the season from the penalty spot to tie the match at 1-1 in the second half, but the Blazers were unable to hold on.
SCOUTING THE 49ERS
Charlotte enters the match with a 1-1-1 record on the year. The 49ers had one match canceled to start the season and a second match called early due to weather. Brandon Morales has led the way with one goal and one assist so far this season. Charlotte has split the goalkeeping duties thus far with Leonard Stritter and Sebastian Cutler-DeJesus each getting some time in net.
SOPHOMORE BREAKOUT CANDIDATES
Benedikt Erhard was recognized by Top Drawer Soccer as a potential breakout candidate for the Blazers. He finished the year with a pair of assists. Fellow sophomore Mathias Love Groth was named to the AAC All-Rookie Team a year ago and will look to build upon that performance. Zsombor Kalnoki-Kis is also returning after scoring one goal and recording an assist in 2022. He added his first goal of the season against FGCU.
NEWCOMERS STEPPING UP
This season, underclassmen have scored all of the Blazers' goals, with three coming from newcomers. Freshman Isaac Calderon leads the Blazers with two goals while Kaleb Jowers, Alan Melendez and Haris Osmanbasic each have one. Four of the five goalscorers had not scored a goal for UAB entering the season.
GOLD CARD
Men's Soccer season tickets are available for $65 by purchasing the 2023-24 Gold Card. The Gold Card will allow you to gain access to all home events for Women's Soccer, Men's Soccer, Volleyball, Women's Basketball, Softball, and Baseball (Regions Field & Young Memorial). This card is not valid for American Athletic Conference or NCAA Championship events.
