American Athletic Conference Announces 2023-24 Men’s Basketball Schedule Pairings
7/20/2023 10:43:00 AM | Men's Basketball
BIRMINGHAM - The American Athletic Conference released the league's schedule pairings for the 2023-24 men's basketball season today. The matrix is based off an 18-game league schedule. In this model, each team plays five of its 13 opponents twice – both home and away. The Blazers will face the other eight opponents once each, four at home and four on the road. Repeat opponents are annually determined by television inventory and contractual requirements, competitive issues/NET implications, and geographic rivalries.
The Blazers home and away opponents include Florida Atlantic, Memphis, North Texas, SMU, and Tulane. Florida Atlantic returns to the schedule after making a run to the Final Four last season and joins the AAC along with the Blazers. UAB will take on Memphis for the first time since 2019, reigniting a long-established rivalry with the Tigers. The Blazers and the Mean Green played four times during the 2022-23 season and will continue competing as familiar rivals. SMU and Tulane will appear on the Blazers' schedule for the first time since each school joined the AAC.
Additionally, Bartow Arena will host East Carolina, Rice, South Florida, and Wichita State. The Blazers took on Rice three times during last year's campaign and faced South Florida during the 2022 Sunshine Slam while East Carolina and Wichita State will be on the schedule for the first time in a decade.
UAB will hit the road to face Charlotte, Temple, UTSA, and Tulsa during the upcoming season. The Blazers will hit the road during the 2023-24 campaign and travel to the east coast to face a familiar foe in Charlotte and take on Temple in Philadelphia for the first time since 1993. UAB also makes road trips to UTSA and Tulsa this upcoming season.
"We are thankful for the opportunities forthcoming in our inaugural season in the American Athletic Conference." Head Coach Andy Kennedy said, "Our fans, our community, and most importantly, our players will be excited to have many national respected programs coming to Bartow Arena this season. The challenges are plentiful and that's how we like it!"
The complete 2023-24 conference schedule with dates and times, as well as national television information, will be announced by the American Athletic Conference at a later date.
