Previewing UAB’s Home Schedule: Game 1 – North Carolina A&T

BIRMINGHAM – For a third a straight season and for the fifth time in six years, UAB football will kick off the college football season on a Thursday night when the Blazers host North Carolina A&T on Aug. 31 at Protective Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Blazers have won each of their last seven season openers dating back to the 2014 season and have outscored their opponents 297-71 during that span. Three of those games have come in shutout fashion: 2018 vs. Savannah State (52-0), 2021 vs. Jacksonville State (31-0) and 2022 vs. Alabama A&M (59-0).
The 2023 opener marks the first meeting between UAB and North Carolina A&T, and the Aggies are coming off a 7-4 season in 2022. The game also features two former NFL All-Pro players and a pair of first year head coaches as Super Bowl winning quarterback Trent Dilfer leads the Blazers and former New England Patriot Vincent Brown leads the Aggies.
Protective Stadium will be the place to be on Aug. 31 for Birmingham's College Football Kickoff. The North end zone will include family-friendly activations including bounce houses, and first year UAB students will have the opportunity to lead the Blazers out of the pregame tunnel. More information for first year students on how to register will come at a later date.
The season opener is also Corporate Night Out and provides a perfect opportunity for companies and individual groups to spend the evening with the Blazers.
