Mary Dunn and Jaxon Hunter Named Women’s Basketball Graduate Assistants

BIRMINGHAM – UAB head women's basketball coach Randy Norton has announced that Mary Dunn and Jaxon Hunter have joined the staff as a Graduate Assistants.
Dunn comes to the Magic City after spending the 2022-23 basketball season with Brunel Singleton SuperValue located in Cork, Ireland. The team plays in the Superleague, the highest-level professional women's league in Ireland. In 18 games, she averaged 10 points and 14 rebounds per game.
Prior to going pro, the Washington, Pa. spent six seasons playing college basketball – five at Youngstown State and her graduate season at Pittsburgh.
For her career at Youngstown State, she appeared in 114 games while making 65 starts. She had career totals of 1,299 points, 540 rebounds, 91 blocks and 75 assists while shooting 53.2% from the floor. Dunn became the 22nd member of the Youngstown State women's basketball 1,000-point club in 2019-20 during a shortened season due to injury.
Academically, Dunn was a three-time member of the Horizon League All-Academic Team and was selected to the Google Cloud Third Team Academic All-America Team following the 2018-19 season. She earned her bachelor's degree in May 2020 as a double major in communications and sociology with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
Dunn spent her graduate season at Pittsburgh, where she played in 24 games, making four starts during the 2021-22.
She will be pursuing her master's degree in Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies with concentrations in Digital Marketing and Leadership.
"I am excited to be a part of the Blazer family," said Dunn. "After my first conversation with Coach Norton and the staff I knew this was the place I wanted to be. I am eager to bring everything I have acquired during my time as a player to the coaching side of the game while learning from some of the very best. I am so thankful to get that opportunity here at UAB and am ready to get to work."
Hunter, a native of Trussville, comes to Southside after a successful playing career at Auburn Montgomery. He helped the Warhawks to the school's second-ever postseason berth as an NCAA Division II member as the No. 6 seed in the 2023 Gulf South Conference tournament.
Of the court, he was instrumental in the marketing and promotion of all 11 of the Warhawks athletic teams. Additionally, he served as a social media intern and a game day operations assistant.
Academically, Hunter is a four-time honoree of the Gulf South Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll. He graduated from UAM with a bachelor's degree in sports management earlier this month.
He will be pursing his Master of Business Administration degree.
"I'm excited to be on board," said Hunter. "I am looking forward for what the future holds at UAB."
