UAB Blazers Defeat FAU in Season Finale at Young Memorial Field

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Blazers (17-36, 8-22) end the 2023 season on a high-note after having defeat Florida Atlantic (33-23, 16-14) by a score of 10-5 on senior day, May 20, at Young Memorial Field.
Prior to first pitch, UAB honored the class of 2023 which included nine seniors – John Marc Mullins, JC Sewell, Leo Harris, Christian Hall, Brandon Willoughby, Jonah Smith, Brooks Walton, Tyler O'Clair and Matthew Reed.
The Blazers sent their seniors out with a bang once taking an early eight-run lead after the having scored seven runs in the second. UAB did not score again until plating two runs in the eighth.
Christian Hall led the Blazer offense after he hit a two-run home run during his first at bat followed by a grand slam to end his career on a bang with two hits, two runs and five RBI. Logan Braunschweig (2-for-5) also had a multi-hit game with two singles and one RBI.
Tyler O'Clair started on the mound for the Blazers and threw three shutout innings with three strikeouts to hold FAU scoreless through five innings. Jonah Smith (1-1) collected the win after he threw three complete innings and gave up two runs – earned – on three hits. Matthew Reed, Christian Clack and Carson Myers all spent an inning each on the mound. Reed allowed two earned runs on three hits while Clack allowed one run on two hits with two strikeouts. Myers closed out the game and allowed only one hit before UAB collected the final out.
