DENTON – UAB Track & Field concluded their C-USA Outdoor Championship run on Sunday at Denton, where the Blazers scored points in nine events. The Green and Gold finished with ten top-eight finishes over the weekend.
"We had lots of good things happen this weekend," said head coach Kurt Thomas " There were some ups and downs with injuries that kept us from getting more points, but we had so many athletes step up and place higher than they came in ranked."
The Blazers had notable performances on the final day of the meet, starting with an eighth-place finish from Trinity Fellows in the pole vault with a jump of 3.50m. Following Fellow's performance, Shauntia Landrum continued her performance from Saturday, where she placed sixth with a 12.08m, adding three points to the team score. Nia Hill would also add to the total score by placing eighth in the high jump with a season-best jump of 1.65m.
"Trinity, Nia, and Gina all stepped up over the weekend with points in their events. Shauntia jumped great and scored in the triple jump. Coach Andreassen and Coach Lowry did a great job with their event groups this year." said Thomas.
In hurdles, Kat Duren and Makiyah Sills participated in the 100m hurdle final, where Duren finished third with a time of 13.71. Sills would finish eighth. Regina Harris placed eighth in the 800m, while Lauren Charlton finished fifth in the 5K, adding additional points to UAB's total score.
"It was an important meet for our young team to learn how to compete at a championship event. We'll only get better from here." Said Thomas.
The Blazers finished the night with an All-Conference honor in Kat Duren with her third-place performance in the 100m hurdles.
